what kind of band for bridge series?

Hello,

I wonder what kind of band I should get myself to work on the Thoracic Bridge.

How strong should it be?

Should it be more something like this

band1 or this band2 ? It seems the first one is more narrow but thicker. Also, is it important that it has the things to hold on?

Alessandro Mainente

Hi Michael, well basically when you search for a band on amazon you should search for the resistance in function of the elongation, this makes the difference. also the two links lead to the same page.

Jon Douglas

Bungee cord is superior to exercise bands as it maintains resistance as it elongates, like Ale said. I splashed out a little on a braided bungee cord and immediately noticed the difference using it for rings shoulder mobility

Andrew Long

which one and where did you get yours from Jon?  I am looking at getting some and also live in Australia if you got it here.

Tanya Hill

Hi Andrew,

Id search out some bungee's online that have great reviews. :) Id say maybe check on Amazon.

Hi,

I picked up this one at a Rebel sport; Spri brand (same as my paralettes; I think they are an offbrand Rogue clone ;) ). I am not totally certain what it was marketed as but it is a red and white plaited cord with handle at either end. Vaguely recall it being sold as an X-something, two letter name. Anyway, was certainly worth the price bump and is a sturdy thing; not breaking anytime soon. Hope that helps.... sorry I do not have the packaging :)

Andrew Long

thanks Jon I found it on the website and am going to go check them out today.  do you use the same cord for thoracic stretch series as well as the rings warm up or do you need different strengths for each?

Hi Andrew,

Depending on your level on what you use a band as warmup. Always remember that the warmup should not compromise your training. (its not an "added" workout) :)

Andrew Long

I'm not talking about a warm up.  I'm looking to get a good cord for the thoracic stretch series as was the op.  Will need it down the line for other exercises though and wanted to check what Jon's experience was with using the same band for both.  I was thinking a lighter one might be better for the thoracic stretch than the rings one.

Everett Carroll

Hey Andrew,

I prefer a variety of bands to ensure I get the most out of each exercise. Some people prefer to go heavier for the prone band pulls than for the supine. Others the opposite, depending on where their deficiencies lie. I do use a heavier band for the ring mobilities.

Jeffrey Bittner

I'm with Everett; I like a variety of different bands also. Sometimes I find that a medium strength band works best for me as I can adjust my distance from the bar to adjust level of difficulty. In my opinion it is sometimes harder to find the "sweet spot" using a lite or a heavy band.

Darin Phoenix

Hi Brett,

Those bands look like they should work fine for the bridge series. I like the fact that there i multiple levels of resistance that you can use.

@Jon Douglas, does this look like what you're using for the thoracic series? I don't like the resistances bands I've been using, but have been hesistant to buy something for fear it won't work well either, haha.

This cord is about 4 feet, which sounds a little short to me, but I suppose it stretches quite a lot.

That's the one yes. Have found it just right; it makes quite a difference for me.

Also in the search of the right cord. Jon, are you using 2 of the cords above or are one long enough for both arms?

One's been fine around stall bars, my toes on the wall. Your heightge may vary :)

Jonas have you purchased these yet?

i got myself one blue and one red one only to be disappointed to find that during supine band pulls using just one (either red or blue) anchored at my feet is just to hard to pull into shoulder flexion so I have to use both of them (one each anchored to my feet). Then the problem arises that the length is too long with too much slack so I have to grab the cord a little way down from the handle . And of course each band Is different resistance so this is by no means ideal - wondered if you had found a similar issue

The prone band pull is ok as I anchor my self round my kitchen table leg (the leg of the table is between my legs lol) and this works ok . However if I were to anchor one band(red or blue )  At my feet on say some stall bars again they band would be way too strong for me to be able to pull it down at the start position

Be interested to hear your thoughts on this

I also used to have issues with the right strength bands… now I found what works for me, but until you find, you could try to have one of those short loops-bands that we use on our ankles to do the side monster walks to strengthen the glutes. I just added (tied to it) one or two of those on the too-tight band and it got a little longer with a good enough strength. Maybe you could use it until you find the right band, or until the blue one won't feel too strong.

Thanks suzanna

yeah I've found a way that works ok for now

as for being able to pull the bands back I don't think I'd ever be able to do that with the red or blue used singularly  . They just seem too heavy . I'd be interested to hear if others manage to ? :-/

Leigh, Unfortunately amazon did not ship those to Sweden. So im also seraching for better ones at the moment.. ill let you know if i find some good solution.

In prep for my first TB session I found these on the interwebs. UK based site, not sure about overseas delivery.

But i already have a selection of decent resistance bands from myprotein.com and thought before splashing the cash i'd try them. I used 2 of the red resistance bands for prone and 1 for supine during my first session. They did the job well enough. Not in stock right now though but regardless they are excellent quality resistance bands for much lower than the usual prices.

Edit:

I also have a set of these ankle straps for pulley weight machines. As i dont have stall bars for a quick fix I looped my bands through these and stuck my feet under my sofa.

Tertius Carstens

Newbie here. I got the level 3 SPRI Xertube and yes, way too short. I'm 6ft and feels like I'm lifting weights, not doing a stretch routine. I can get it to the final position, but it feels like I'm doing a personal best...

Any other suggestions?

Pauline Taube

Hi Tertius,

You may move closer to the bars if possible. I'd suggest to submit a form check of these, this way it's easier to give you more specific advices :)

Affan Osman

I also got the level 3 SPRI Xertube and its short for me. For supine I feel it a lot in my shoulders. Prone is not too bad. To make it easy I have my knees at the point where the band wraps around. In time I assuming I can move closer where band wraps at ankle distance and not knees.
