Hello,

I am a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder studying kinesiology. I have currently been offered a position to help out coaching as a intern at a youth gymnastics gym. I was wondering if there were any reads or sources that anyone could recommend for me to better prepare myself for such a role. I currently have no coaching experience. Anything helps. Appreciate it!

HI Ryan it depends on your weak field, there is not too many information in gymnastics. you can find many articles on the web about technical component like swing, tumbling etc. for the physical preparation itself you need to know the functional anatomy of the body and have the ability to breakdown the skills into simple pieces. this comes with experience.

Hi Ryan,

You are in an excellent place to learn about the physical preparation. Most of the Gymnasticbodies courses are based around exercises that Coach used to prepare his athletes. In regards to the technical information I agree with Alex there is not a lot of  information available. You can definitely find articles and videos on the web in regards to some of the technical skills.

It will also depend on whether you are coaching competitive gymnastics or recreational. You would assume that they will provide you with some type of training as well.

Hope you enjoy the new position.
