Hi Jay Jay,

Bent arm half lay thats great news!

Can you please post a video for us to better assess your form?

Lifting the lower body does require lots of engagement in the glutes. ;)

Here is a previously started thread with a lot of useful information: Bent Arm Straddle Planche

I think this skill was an aha moment for me.  I had been struggling too, but what ultimately worked for me was getting into the pseudo planche pushup position and going from there.  Simply get into a regular pushup position with your hands turned sideways>roll forward on the toes>slide forward the toes a few inches so that you are leaning forward slightly>then move your head toward the ground and you will notice that your hands will be around hip level>then you should be able to kick your feet off the ground a little and they might kick up like you are doing a hamstring curl.  From here it is a balance and endurance exercise.  The challenge is to keep your hands in the right position or else you will fall over.  There is also a sort of opening a jar movement of the hands and flexing of the back that is needed to keep yourself up.

I am not an expert on this movement and have not mastered it, but I am able to get up in the position and hold for a few seconds and have gotten the required 10s a few times.  It is kind of hard to breathe in the position and it gets much harder to do once you are fatigued from the frog stands.
