Location and depth of soreness

My types of soreness varies from time to time and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the significance of these particular brands.

1) Around the ends of the muscle, near insertion points only.

2) Spanning the entire length of the muscle.

3) Deep beneath the muscle

4) Pulsates and twitches, even painful at times, when approaching a specific band of ROM

(at times when my shoulder is sore and i lift it by my ear, i feel it contracting and twitching involuntarily)

I am interested as well because I have also had all of those . . . symptoms, I guess you could call them that. :D

after analyzing my soreness and reviewing my recent workout logs here's a few patterns i see:

high intensity low volume tends to give me soreness #1

high volume tends to give me #2

if i do an exercise that stretches the muscle while putting it under tension i get # 3

i'm not sure what causes # 4, it happens intermittently, i'd guess that poor active flexibility and maybe electrolyte deficiency might be the culprit.

#4 fasciculation = muscle twitching

can be due to hard training and over stimulation of the motor neuron... dehydartion and low magnesuim levels can trigger it... magnesuim supplements can help

taurine and tyrosine can help... they help reduce stress... stress can cause low magnesium levels...

stress/anxiety can also cause myokymia... similar to fasciculations but usually involving eye muscles

fasciculations may also be caused by some stimulants/medications... sometimes reducing caffeine can help

fasciculations are common but sometimes they can be symptons that somethings wrong... rhabdomyolysis (caused by intense training or cpt II) can cause muscle twitches and spasams amoung other symptoms... listen to your body

as a side note... magnesuim can help you sleep... and most people (athletes included) don't get enough... but too much will give you the runs
