Have you read the "Fats 101" lesson with the breakfast fat task? Here's a screen shot of the portion where Jeff lists nuts.

Above this portion of text in the lesson, Jeff talks about how great coconut oil is, so yes, coconut is a good breakfast fat.

If you search the forum for peanut butter you may find a post from Jeff explaining why he's not a fan (it may also have come up in a later lesson whose sub forum you don't have access to yet).

Thanks Julia, for some reason I had not. Will definitely read through it right now though! :)

Ok, just finished reading through it. I've added the heavy cream to my coffee one morning, and done a handful of almonds (didn't see those listed but assume they're ok) or a handful of cashews the other days, so it seems like I'm good so far.

In the write up Jeff doesn't list peanuts/peanut butter as a bad source and earlier in this thread he seemed to imply that peanut butters had added negative ingredients, just wasn't sure if that included the fresh ground organic stuff (that you actually grind yourself and comes out of a dispenser like those found at Whole Foods/Coop's) or only the processed stuff.

Maybe it's one of those "last resort" types of "ok" sources but not high on the list?

I enjoyed Julia's response on the Healthy Fats 101 essay. I want to also point out one of Jeff's themes in his essay of Omega 3 sources in his most recommended fats (such as Fish, Macadamia nuts, or enriched eggs).  I think this is important regarding the Omega 6 : Omega 3 ratio starting out the day.

For example: A breakfast when looking just at the peanuts has a

ratio of ~5,000 : 1   (Omega6/Omega3).

Whereas a fortified egg, with ~10% flax enriched feed may have a ratio ~2.5:1 (Omega6/Omega3), which of course fish being even better.

Keegan Yentsch

Yeah, good point about the Omega3 to

Omega6 balance.

Keegan,

You answered your own question. Peanuts are not a nut so they don't make the 'nuts list'

Peanuts are similar to corn. 150 years ago it probably was a pretty good food, now with peanuts you have mold and a host of other issues. Its pretty hard if not impossible to get a peanut that is decent. The peanuts that you see at a store that get ground to peanut butter are as old as dirt.

List of heathy nuts are listed.

Thanks for the clarification Jeff, will go with almonds or cashews instead.
