Ita Sha
Hello ! I want to be able o do giants some day, so I started practicing some basic swings under the bar.I know that giants require a good handstand, so of course I'm developing my handstand with the Handstand course for over a year now. I'll be happy if you could check my swings technique and tell me what can I do to continue towards giants. Thank you !
Toni Laukkavaara
I cant say anything about the form on this, but i am suggesting you that you dont try to do them on that setup
Joshua Slocum
First step is to find a more stable bar. The setup you're using now looks like it is liable to break if you swing much higher. You'll also want to find one with padding underneath - the higher you swing, the greater the chance you'll fall in a way that's hard to land properly from. There are a number of videos on youtube about how to develop the giant swing - I'd suggest checking those out. In the meantime, here are some tips: - learn how to do a half-pirouette in the front swing. This lets you build your swing higher and higher without having to worry about peeling off in the back- keep your body hollow in the front - right now you're thrusting your hips out, which gives the illusion of more height but makes it harder to perform a clean swing
Blairbob
Learn how to hop and regrasp the bar in the back swings.Hollow in the back, arch at the bottom, hollow in the front. Then again, you're basically just hanging on at this point and swinging like a dead weight. No hollow in back or front, no kick from bottom "tap swing using an arch to hollow."I think hands should be in closer but that also depends on shoulder flexibility and what you find comfortable. and...point your toes! And definitely agree that this bar may not be strong enough to support yourself. We used to do routines on a homemade bar but it was anchored to a ceiling and built robust. Still made for some sketchy landings (since if you didn't land far enough there was an edge you had to clear from the padded dojo floor to regular floor).
