Explain the search function to me?

So I have been trying to search for HBP/PE1 in form checks, with not much success.

HBP/PE1 - 2 posts, mine is one of them

HBPPE1  - 2 posts, mine is one of them

HBP PE1 - nothing

There seems to be a 4 letter minimum

The search function seems to ignore " / " 

So if you write 

HBP/PE1

It thinks you mean

HBPPE1

So is there a workaround to this I don't know of?

And if there isn't can we make it a rule that everyone writes their form checks as one word?

The search was changed to three letters a while ago. That said, the search certainly isn't the friendliest to acronyms. We are on the verge of releasing a major forum update that will have a number of new features and a better search engine that also prioritizes topic titles.
