San Diego Seminar options to minimise expenses

I have decided to come to the San Diego seminar and I am looking for recommendations on where I should book a hotel/motel preferably some place that is cheap and as close as possible to the seminar location, dont really care about comfort just looking to minimize costs as much as possible.

 

Whatever your recommendations are I would also like to know how to get to the location from the hotel, bus/taxi?

And also what do I need to bring to the seminar?

Hotel circle should be fairly inexpensive and you should be able to hop on the light rail or on the freeway and get to CFSD fairly easy.

Use hotels.com but I just wouldn't think downtown SD would be inexpensive at all.
