SPL/SE 2 but going on with iM of SE1

Heyho,

half of my first cycle with SPL/SE1 is over and frog stand seems easy for me, theres no problem at all.

Like many others here i am struggling with the iM, though is it ok if i move on to the next SE to not waste time in frog stand which seems very easy but still do the iM from Se1?

I just tried out the SE2...much more challenging.

regarding to this SE i have some questions:

1. it seems that the video guy doesn't use the full palm, but he s just balancing through the fingers and some of the upper hand, its hard to see, can someone tell me please, which is correct?

2. the hardest part was leaning forward so far like the guy, my wrists totally stopped me from doing this, frogstand is no problem for my wrists, i am also doing h1 for a few month, but this is way to hard.

Is it because i was on my flat palm? hard for me to have a closer angle as 90 degrees between hand and forearm still.

thanks :)

Do not move on until iM is mastered.

IN the lean you will need flexible wrists to keep the weight towards the center of your hand.  If you feel all the weight in the fingers then you are either at a bad angle or need to work the wrists.

Mastery of planche leans should have helped the wrists.  Have you finished that to mastery?

William

hey daniel,

planche leans weren't that hard for my wrists, there i could push through my palms in a different way as i do now for this.

Frog stand isn't hard for my wrists too, but S2 is, but i already could hold 5x30s of frog stand, so i tested S2 again yesterday and i could do the first

level: 3x6 sec.

But what about the video guy, looks like he isn't pushing through the full palm, but through his fingers, the look tensed. Or am i wrong here?

As i tried the same i could do my 3x6 sec, but not with total flat palm.

I'm also doing H1 for wrists, should i go harder or with more volume, because i do not feel any progress in my wrist flexibility.

Would you do frog stand still in my situation? Always 5x30 se then?

As far as my understanding goes Coach Sommer's standard would be. You haven't mastered a specific PE or SE until you have mastered the paired mobility as well.

William

No i got a thera band and yesterday i trained the iM of frog stand with this band assisting holding my legs up.

With this help i could do it in full rom and think now it will build the strength needed. i felt really pumped up after, yes!

My plan is to get not just 10 sec for the iM, but 20 sec because with the band it's easier, and then i try to do it without. What do you think?

Maybe you are right, my wrist stopped me yesterday, i couldn't even hold the SE2 for 6 sec, days before i could do it.

But do you think frog stand can give me now any benefits after mastering it? it wasn't making stress on my wrists, so there would be no adaption, right? Maybe going one more step back to elevated planche leans to get the wrists stronger?

thanks!

That's exactly what I am doing too! I'm on 5x20s with the Orange band, moving onto less stiff bands until no bands. I have the band round my Anterior Superior Iliac Spines though as this my balance point. I have also re-visited PPP and planche leans, doing the latter for sets of 60s.

We WILL get it!

If you use a Theraband as a preliminary-step for this iM make sure you put it around your waist and not your legs.

Nice to have you on board!

60 sec planche leans? hm, i try to get my hands more under my hips, increasing the leverage and needed strenght, hope that works haha

Oh ok, good point. But why, because of center of mass?

Or because we are not training the hams and gluts like its supposed to be?

Kasper Stangerup

I weren't able to do the bent arm planche holds at all, so I stayed at elevated planche leans and just increased my lean every time I had worked up to mastery. This built quite a bit of strength and muscle in my shoulders, and then when I reached Korean dips in the HBP progression, I felt a high degree of similarity to the bent arm holds, so I tested myself on SPl/SE1>im after a microcycle of Korean dips. I was able to hold it for maybe 5 seconds with inferior form, but that is still a huge imrovement from complete ineptitude.

Both. Also around the legs totally changes the leverage point. In 'real life you aren't really holding up your legs as much as holing up your core, This placement will far better prepare you for doing it without the bands, which is the whole point after all.

William

same plan here, getting a better elevated planche lean and maybe add some ppp with the new hand position at the end, i guess i will make 3 sets of planche leans and add 2 of ppp, would like to hear about your progresses :)

Thank you Cole, that's a really good hint for me :)! i will do that

William

Today(H1 day) i tried out to do some Planche Leans and the iM of Frog stand with theraband, well it didn't worked out for me haha

Planche leans quite hard(3x30s), but same here, wrists stopped me from going in a greater lean, i did H1 before, hoped that helps me to get my wrists in form before. But i will go back to leans in F7-days too.

I tried the iM with the theraband around my waist, did expected something better, i couldn't hold it with the changed position of the band for a second!

the band was also marking my skin a lot, also with t-shirt and it made it even harder to balance though, i will give it another try

Just wanted to keep you updated :D

I think that means it's working and you'll be learning the balance point for you in no time. One of us should probably put up a video of this method.... Gentlemen first :-)))

Hope you're right! Oh a video could be hard to make, the door frame blocks the view, but maybe when i try it on a playground next time i can do it, but its hard with your smartphone alone to film your self in a good angle :D

William

i watched the video of frog stand again today, because i wanted to figure out if i'm making some big mistakes in frogstand that makes my

adv. frogstand so hard and maybe i found it! The angle of the picture left bottom was my angle for frogstand all the time, but then saw the video and tried to make it right. Wasn't really harder for me, but maybe if i make work sets it gives some better benefits for next progression :)

Last time my thera band cracked as i tried to do it around my waist and leant forward...though...thats not my way to go i guess :D

I'm starting the frog stand cycle from beginning(week 3 now), because like in my post below, i want to lean far more with head closer to floor, hope that works better for preparing for next advanced frog stand.

Because i have no chance doing the iM of frog stand, really no chance....i decided to take the lowest position of the PPPushups as iM, also 10 sec per set. its near to the real iM and it was really hard to do right now, there must be a lot to get out of

William

Hey, i just spent some more weeks on frog stand and i still have to get my first seconds in the iM of it, but i want to go on now with SE2, advanced frog stand, but even now after much practise of frog stand i cannot get enough seconds to build volume on this...is there any intermediate step between these two? it just works to hard on my wrists, even after frog stand, thats nothing for wrists, so no adjustment came with it.

i mean i feel i could hold but i feel very unsure about hurting my wrists.

wrists looking backwards is no option yet, hm?

MT Nordic

william, i think you've answered your own question. You can't do any advanced frog stand because your wrists aren't ready for it, because you haven't mastered the first iM. I think band assist is fine for regressing this, or go back to planche leans and gradually over time increase, increase, increase lean until you're basically where you need to be for the iM SE1, then it will come easy. This is a recurring theme here, and it's because people aren't getting enough lean in their planche leans. I know it's frustrating to go "backwards", but it will help you in the long term. I assure you, if you push forward with advanced frog stand without being ready you will not like your wrists, forearms, and elbows before long. Good luck.

William

Thanks for reply.

I tried some stuff now, first practising planche leans again, then with band assist but no chance to get in position.

Now i want to try with leaning like the iM but with knees on floor, build up to 5x20 secs. While this i try some Se2, frog stand is not getting me anywhere anymore.

I'd like to train GTG-Style but i dont want to risk my wrists of course.

But i will give leans another shot, for longer time, they are easiest version for wrists of all. But i do need bent arm strength more then straight arm for this iM...

William

Nothing new about the iM, but today i finally found my self made mini-parallettes out of axe handles and what can i say?

Advanced frog stand felt so easy today, i was really happy! :) I just had to do 5x6 sec, but i easily got 5x12, just didnt wanted to go to fast too far first time.

I will stick to the parallettes, even if some of you might say i need the wrist-part too, but i felt my wrists still working very hard, but i could finally connect my force to the ground, never could before. Also next step seems doable for some seconds, but i will go through this normal cycle.

This Se feels now like training, just my axe handles are kinda thin i noticed...

For the iM i will do PPP/step back till i get my hands low enough.

To help build up strength for the iM I do standing static bent arm holds with a barbell in three positions - shoulder height, chest height, and hip height - with the barbell held away from the body to mimic the iM arm position.

hm, could you do a picture next time? :D

LateStarter@46

OK, if you give one of your adv.frog stand :-) [and you'll have to wait until Monday]
