In the book coach suggests combining the FBEs with the statics, and this leads to something like supersetting a static with a full range exercise. This has been a convenient system for me to organize my workouts around, but is there any advantage beside saving time to training the two together this way? Would it be worse, for example, to train my statics in the morning and then train basic exercises later in the day?

You can train them seperately if it's more convenient. I think the benefit of working them together comes because you are working the muscles at a greater intensity. Because you are pairing the same muscle group in both static and FBE (ie core paired with Lsit) Its what's called a giant set and the core muscles are being worked by 2 different exercises with only a short amount of rest in between.
Plus it saves a lot on time as you're not haing to sit around between each set waiting for the muscles to recover.
If I am attributing this to the right researcher, famed sports-scientist Yuri Verkhoshansky developed something called the Static-Dynamic protocol. He discovered in his research that static exercise (used isometrics) followed by dynamic exercise resulted in a 20% better strength gain than dynamic exercise alone.
So Giant sets should get you to your goals faster than just Dynamic or Static work alone.
