What is the best way to guide the following conversation? Should they simply focus on the GB facebook page? Or is there something else I am missing here?

I think it depends how involved we want to officially be in it. The FB page they made is really an unofficial pace for members to post and discuss. We could do an official twitter feed but do we want to send messages out that often?
We have the forums as a place for both official and unofficial conversation.
- There was previously an "unoffical" GB page that became problematic. My preference is for them to interact within an area where we can maintain a modicum of decorum.
- In addition, what is different about what they are doing on this fb page that they are not able to do here?
I have to agree, also unofficial pages can create confusion as it's not always easy to tell they are indeed unofficial.
If people want to 'friend' each other on the various media however, that might not be so bad if there is a way we can facilitate that while allowing members to remain private if they want to.
Perhaps if the Facebook option we already have would also allow people to make friend requests. Not sure it's possible though.
People just like using FB, and the associated FB app.
Josh from the sounds of the thread already made the FB group.
Nic I think Josh just changed the original title of thread so it didn't sound like we were setting up an adult escort service.
LOL well that was a good idea
@Cory
Is there a(n easy) way to integrate one's Facebook identity to their profile so others can find them and friend them?

We could add a Facebook field to the profile, however, it would also be completely public.
but would it be optional to add? If so at least it's something.
Yes, I can choose for fields to be optional or required.
I can't see any reason not to add it as an option then. That is assuming it's not a big job. Could announce it on the thread in question.
Let's do that then, make an announcement and at the same time have Josh shut down the other one.
The calendar function could also be used to include the GB seminars and workshops.

I didn't realise there was a calendar, where is it?
Calendar ?
It's installed but not active yet.
What other aspects of social media integration do we have available: how would they operate and how would they impact the forum?
Beyond single sign-on, users can import/export their Facebook status and profile photo, like a post, or share it on their wall.
Sounds good. Is there anything else that needs to be done before we go live with these new features?
These have all been part of the new forum and live since Day 1. All I need to enable is the calendar function and feed.
Let's enable the calendar and also put together both a mass email and a forum post announcing the "new" social media options, what they are and how they work.
Wouldn't hurt to mention the upcoming seminars in there too.
