the reason im asking is because i used to practice the press agaisnt a wall but i was using my head to assist me with the excercise. then i read on the forums that if you use your head you wont progress. the way i understood it is that if you use your head for support and then raise your legs you wont advance because thats not the same movement and the idea is to raise your hips. so i just want to know if theres anything wrong with the way im practacing it now?

Putting your feet up on a raised surface is what Coach Sommer calls a Box Press. It's a very useful tool to develop Press HS strength.

The way you are doing it needs some adjustment. Notice how you are leaning your shoulders very far forward and then arching your back to lift. This is more of a Hollowback Press which is an entirely different movement.

You want to look at your bed, resist leaning forward and first stack your hips over your hands from there try to curl your body up rather than arch.
