Hey y'all, i wasn't sure if i should put this here or in digital coaching, but i put it here becasue i am not really looking for advice on my form. this is my very first time on a rope. m9isqWox2LE

My question is, can i do these every day, or should i do them in an SSC? I know my legsa are bent in the video, its becasue i can't do it with legs extended yet.

Yeesh, the slide down scared me.

I believe you should try to keep your hands in front of your chest, you're trying to go up with your arms and you're not pulling your body all the way up.. if you try to keep your hands in front of your chest you're forced to pull up more and drive your all body up also...

And don't "learn" to slide down...

At first just get comfortable going up and down, don't get to picky. Watch the slide down as it can chew your hands up good. Try taking one or two down reps to where you can extend your legs and come off the rope safely. As you progress and get comfortable work on longer pulls bringing your hands to your chest. This will likely take time. Relax and let it happen, like everything else do not rush it.

As for the frequency. That would depend on your level of work capacity. I would start with 2-3 times for a couple weeks and see how it feels and if it hurts the rest of your training. Then if all is well try one trip as part of your warm up, add an extra trip once a week or so as you get better.

It's a bit easier if you keep the rope closer to you than farther away.

I wouldn't slide down but rope burn isn't as bad with manilla. I'd personally avoid it though.

Try straddle legless climbs. Can cramp hip flexors though.

You can approach the volume with SSC or whatever. You'll find out when it gets to be too much and just back off accordingly. Because your arms will probably tire out before you start to feel it in your joints. Doesn't effect joints too much unless you're going to straight arm or hopping.

Thank you for all your resposes. To clarify, the slide down was not on purpose i thought i would be able to make it back down, but i forced myself to go just a little higher, and in doing so my hands lost their grip completely. I slid down becasue my mind figured it would have been better then doing what alm,ost happened...by that i mean i almost fell. So i waited 10 minutes after this video and was able to climb all the way up and back down. Pretty sloppy, but i was able too.

SOme more questions: I don't know if i can keep my legs perfectly straight when climbing, should i try anyway? Also, should i only climb as high i can knowing i can make a controlled decest? I.E If i can only climb hlaf way up the rope and get a controlled decent, should i do that as oppose to climbing all the way up and having a sloppy decent?

Blackcat: thank you, but what do you mean by keep hands in front of my chest? Do you mean literally have my hands in front of and close to my chest at all times?

canthar: thank you veyr much! i will try that!

Thanks to all again!

Maybe you where rushing your ascent and go for a wider hand position so you could go all the way up and touch the top, I believe it's better if you can control your ascent (and all the way down again...), so you can try to go with smaller steps, without loosing your body positioning, so you will try to have your hands close to your body, like blairbob said, it's easier to control.. If the steps are shorter you spend less time with only one hand grabbing the rope.. Try something like grab the rope with both hands chest level, then try a step that gets your hand face level or something and pull so you will end again with both chest level...

Hope this helps

thank you black cat it does help! i will try this!

ok so i just tried this. Its a lot harder fpr ,me to keep my hands close to my chest...obviously i need ot rest on the rope climbing for a bit becasue my elbows r very mad at me
