Hello Forum

Does anyone have any input on a progression or technique on this skill, I just feel there is a big hole in my own progression from spotting them to letting the boys trying them on their own. I do our ring series 2-3 times a week and do low ring push up and simulate the movement on the low ring but sometimes it seem like i can't get the boys to understand the is a difference between the turnover shoulder down swing for giant and the more hollow shoulder lifting type up swing for the uprise. Any tips or experience shared in this area would be most helpful!

Hello,

First, continues working their swings. Ring swing are much more technical than in any other apparatus. Proper swing technic will make every other skill much more easier to attain. A common mistake when learning back up rise is that the gymnast will tend to start pressing down to early and never allowing their heels to go up. Heel drive here is key. The hips should be at least in line with the rings at horizontal. One thing you can do to make them feel it easier is to start not from handstand but from inverted hand and either kick up start the swing or just let the body drop into the swing, this way they'll have less momentum but much more control.

Hope it helps

Both of the boys with trouble figuring out the uprise can do good turnover and can back uprise on pbars above horizontal. I think I might take a brake with them trying it from a swing and have them just work the jump to supportwith the rings shoulder height that along with support swing on rings and more flys on the cross machine with feet slightly below the rings. sound good?!?!
