What Coach Sommer GB Strength Principles and training methedolgy has helped be develop this young talent from a 5 yr old rec class student to a 7 year old Future Star. Also working much with 9-10 skills soon to come! Appreciate the feedback and honored to give credit where I owe my mentorship from.

That's fantastic. How many hours a week does he train? I've got my own small boy's program just starting out so I'm always looking for more information on training schedules and focuses.

Awesome work,

This kid is doing really well, congrats to both of you

Jacob Marks

I have been progressively increasing his time in the gym the last 2 years. As 6 year old we came MWF 3 3 hour practices. This year We started doing 4 days MT ThF 12 hours, and In the last 3-4 months we started coming coming Sat in prep for his competition for 16 hours total. At least half this time is spent on GB type work, Joint prep and leg conditioning/vault board blocking, handstand basic and lines work, limber, cw, and bounder work, pommel and p-bar swings generally take up the first hour and a half of our practice, then either HBar or ring strap swing work and giants for 45 min, last hours is xtra back tumble or trampoline work and 15 cool and flex down.

Most important is good general foundation strength like coach says, when he was 5 we did rope climb, press and HS hold, ring series of strength, bridge limber work, and layed the foundation for good technichal correct swing, and the last year i have just been trying to add amplitude and power to his swing, now we are up to ring swing HS both way chalk giant on hb both ways, pommeless pommel travel magyar sivado ,pbar giant series of 5 all because we spent the time doing lots good basic swing work lots of hands on spot every swing especially pommel with proper shape and hip direction!

Hope this helps!

The little guy is a weapon of mass destruction. Nice work to both of you.

Darius

Thanks for that information on your training! Very helpful. Do you have just the one guy doing future stars or are there a few training with him at the same time?

Incredible job! Watching how talented and strong gymnastic kids can be is both highly motivated, and self-esteem crushing :D

How long has he been developing his planche?

Jacob Marks

It has been a 2 year process with the planche. A year to go through thr frog stand variation progressionto tuck planche, about 6 months for the tuck planche to progress to an advanced tuck planche and the last 6 months working on the level of the straddle planche, he can hold it true for about 10 second so we still have a way to go but we have been very steady with training of his holds. The 9 year old strength routine has the straddle planche to manna to press which is what we are currently building! We also are working up to the Level 2 strength series on rings.

Your welcome Darius,

Currently there are 8 boys ages 7-9 who are training in his group. They are ranging from new level 5 to new level 7s. 3 will compete this level next year. Josh splits his time amongst a bunch of different work. Since he just turned 7 and has competed for 1 yr last year at level 4 we will compete level 5. He will be working mostly 10 yr old future star skills over the next year.
