These are tucked in my case tight now heh.

I wanted to ask if this is a low-leverage exercise? Or can you treat it just like another pullup and do more reps with it?

Cole Dano

You can treat it either way depending on what training effect you are looking for.

I just wanted to know if you have to "be careful" with them like the ppp and not go too hard on them because you might get injured kinda thing.

Front lever pulls is one of the least joint intensive exercises, so getting injured because your form started getting sloppy or you pushed too hard is doubtful. However, doing an exercise with sloppy form will get you no where fast, even if you don't get injured.

I see. No I don't do them with sloppy form.

Could you tell me, off the top of your head, the most joint intensive exercises, from highest to lowest?

Neal Winkler

Straight arm exercises where the pressure is for elbow extension, like back lever, planche, cross, maltese. Ring swinging elements are brutal on the shoulders.

Not quite true.

Iron cross and maltese can be very brutal on shoulders even more then on elbows (when you are strong enough in elbows).

Ring swings are completly safe if done properly every time (wich is practical imposible for recreational people), we are not talking about high demanding skills such as O'Neil..

What about shoulder retraction when doing these? Do you still have to do that like when you're doing FL?

Alexander Moreen

Yes, you should initiate the pull by depressing your shoulders.
