I noticed that the difficulty (i.e., shoulder strength required) of the tripod and headstand can vary greatly depending on the body angle. Are these exercises meant to mainly work on balance (core stability) or are they targeting shoulder strength? I'd like to know what percentage of weight should be on the hands vs head for the tripod and headstand, and should I maintain my body at an angle to develop shoulder strength or aim to develop balance by being completely vertical?

Hi Matthew, generally you must feel the weight on the hands and feel the body alignment. instead of focusing only on balance you must build up confidence with the inverted position and how different bodyparts are aligned.

Thanks for the quick response. Should the hands be shoulder width apart with elbows tuck in or can they be wider?

shoulder width...exactly as in the handstand position.
