In the correct dorsi -flexion stretch you should try to squeeze the plantar muscles prior the begin the stretch position. in this way, you can prevent an excessive range of motion due to plantar compensation.

Thanks for your reply Alessandro. What do you mean by excessive rom? I'm a lot more limited when keeping the arch, but feel more stable. So I should develop dorsiflexion while squeezing the plantar muscles?
