Stretching - Can it be done every day?

To improve, flexibility/mobility is it advisable to stretch daily to make the most progress?

Or would you over train in the same way as you could over train strength elements if you did them everyday?

Cheers All.

Hi Richard,

Our advice is to perform the three stretch courses we offer only once per week each. Those three stretch sessions combined with your integrated mobility work are plenty to make incredible mobility/flexibility gains. Those stretch courses include longer holds and focus on deeper stretching.

That said, daily mobility work can be fine as long as the intensity is kept very low. Until you can begin the stretch courses, pick just a handful of the mobility drills that give you the most trouble and perform just a single set of each daily.

I do a stretching & strengthening routine 5 times a week (outside my strength & mobility training sessions). I find that this is absolutely necessary to counteract the negative effect of sitting all day in front of a computer. As stated by Everett, the key point is to keep the intensity low.

Here is my routine:

  • 10 000 steps --> ~7,5km/4,66miles of walking each day
  • General joint circumduction warm-up
  • 15r Glute Bridge Curl
  • 150s Butterfly Stretch with full scapular retraction at moderate shoulder extension angle (two exercises in one)
  • 150s Lying Hip Internal Rotation (bent legs)
  • 300s Front Split (150s both sides)
  • 120s Supine Hip Adduction (straight legs)
  • 120s Middle Split
  • 60s of finger extension work for the right hand (prolongated use of a computer mouse is very destructive for finger extensors)
