Hayden.M.

hi all

could anybody give me any tips on how to do a sideflip off on leg like i see the gymnasts do on the balance beams? i love this move. i am capable of doing a sideflip from just 1 bounce, but with both legs at the same time, you know like a front somersault. i was wondering if i needed a great deal of flexibility to do these or just a lot of power. i cant do a no handed cartwheel but i can do pistols with 15 kilos of weight.

also, anybody know any progressions or exercises to train for this?

any replies greatly appreciated

thanks

Blairbob

Hayden, the side flip/salto that is done by women on beam is initiated as an aerial cartwheel via a forward lunge but turns into a side salto in the air.

To sideflip off one leg via a sideways lunge, you just need to transfer weight from one leg to the other pushing off kicking the rear leg over. This is different than the BB side flip. Last I remember, I don't think any of the women initiate the side flip from a sideways entry lunge.
