So since my last workout doing flat tuck back lever I've experienced a weird strain/tension type feeling in the upper part of my sternum in certain positions, like at the start of a dip. Clearly this means I should back off the intensity of my back lever work a while, but is there something else more specific I can do against this? Could this be related to tightness(lack of mobility in the pecs and/or shoulders?

It's just too much load. When I was recovering from my sternum injury and getting back to BL, I was dealing with this then.

Ok, good to know. Will back off and do other useful stuff for a few weeks and just work regular tuck.

finally somebody who i can relate to. i had this problem, got it from boxing, it was like id torn something around my sternum. stuff like dips and back lever were especially the exercises that agrevated it most.

after a while rest (not long), i got back into doing dips (on rings) and back lever but really basic. i did them to the point were i could feel this pull on my sternum then backed off. my own personal experience on this is that with over time doing this, gradually i could feel it less and less, as if something that was weak there was getting stronger.

before, i used to do only a half of a dip because i could feel it pulling a lot (not because i wasnt strong enough), but now im doing as many as i can without it pulling or even feeling it, and full ROM too!! personally, i think that what has helped me the most is static work like back lever. im still doing just the tuck version of it, but at least i now that something is getting stronger because im feeling it less and less.

time, pacience, and building up from the foundations is my experience in this recovery.

hope ive helped :D
