How to progress with planche leans

For planche leans, is it best to progress by doing longer sets at a more moderate lean and then once we reach 30 second sets, slowly increase the lean from there?

Or is it better to do shorter sets at the maximum lean we can do and raise time from there?

Or does it make no difference?

Thanks,

Cam

Master your current lean, then lower the volume, increase the lean and build to mastery again. Same as dislocate progression.

You have to experiment yourself.

What Maksis described as a good standardized way of doing things. However, sometimes there is merits for a steady state cycle as well, especially if wrist dorsiflexion is a limiting factor.

Thanks guys.

Alexander - what is a steady state cycle?

Hey Cameron,

Good question. I suggest working on proper shape, depth of lean, and then length of sets, in that order.

If you properly mastered the previous sPL elements, the first two should be quickly handled. If you need help with form, please post a video to video review or form checks and we will be happy to provide some tips.

Ok awesome, will do.

Thanks Everett!

Basically instead of causing progressive overload through leverage (here: lean) or intensity (here: hold time or sets) you maintain the same "load" for several to many workouts. This allows for connective tissue adaptations, mobility adaptations (if wrist is holding you back your wrist flexion will increase with H1 stretches and mobility exercises) and perfecting shape.

However, no need to do this if you see steady progress and are able to follow the mastery templates without too many deviations.

This would however be a good way to maintain and increase planche lean profiency after mastery standard has been achieved; if you decide to include it in your warm up.
