What exactly does 'being square' mean on vertical shin?

Hi guys.

Would just like some clarification on the hips during vertical shin straight leg stretch... my hip on the leg out in front naturally tends to slide forward so that it is in front of the other hip. When Coach says 'make sure you're square', does this mean to pull that front hip back in line with the other hip so both hips are in a straight line and the bottom of the torso is facing directly forward as well as the top of the torso?

Or does 'being square' relate to the position of the legs and feet and not the hips?

I can't tell from the video as their hips don't look directly in line to me but that could just be the angle it's shot at...

Hi Nikyta,

Great question! Being square means having the hips in line with one another. As you said, that means pulling the front hip back so that it is in a straight line with the back hip. To help you accomplish this, you can also think about pointing your belly button straight forward while making sure that the back knee-cap is facing straight down and not "peaking" out to the side.

Excellent, thank you very much Jeffrey :)
