HBP/PE3

First day doing HBP/PE3 today, and below is two of my attempts (i slowed it down a bit in the 2nd video). I admit these look pretty ugly. Did any of these actually count as a proper pseudo planche push up? My biggest difficulty is to keep the protraction and the lean while pushing up. Slowing it down makes the lean even harder to keep. Any tips/critics for improving would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jin,

You want to touch your chest all the way to the ground and flatten out your hips. My suggestion is to develop good form in the push-up and gradually increase lean to the appropriate depth.

Alessandro Mainente

You need to understand that there is no push up with lean without a solid bodyline. you are actually breaking the line. if you want to perform a good push up the body must moves like a single unit, as a consequence the hips must reach first the floor then chest.

Hi Jin,

As Everett and Alessandro said bodyline is important. Applying it to your incline push up and ground push up will hasten your progress. You also need to strengthen your protraction so that bodyline doesn't break when you go down.

The picture in the following post by Alessandro was very helpful for me in understanding what constitutes a good rep on these:

Thanks for all the tips, guys!! Super helpful. Love Alessandro's post. I know what the goal is now, esp for the details.

Below is another set i did after reading about the bodyline. Is the bodyline ok, or need more improvement? Now that I'm more educated, i can tell there's apparently not enough protraction (esp when coming up), chest not to the ground, and not enough lean as elbows barely vertical (not inclined at all) at bottom. On the bright sight, I felt a bit more control than yesterday. I'll keep working on it, and post a video once i think i have some major improvement.

Still work on touching the hips and then chest to the floor. Also consider posting a form check of HBP/PE2. It is easier to resolve these issues on the earlier progressions and then when you come back to PE3, it goes much smoother.

I admit that I may have not been paying enough attention to my regular push-ups. Here's a video of HBP/PE2. Please criticize, and let me know if i should go back and spend more time on it before moving on to HBP/PE3.

Looks good Jin! As long as you have mastered them with that form, you're okay to be on PE3. Work on the cues we provided and post another form check after a cycle or two.

Thanks Everett :)

How does this look? Am i on the right track? I notice that i tend to lose the shoulder protraction at the bottom, esp. when pushing back up. Any tips? Really appreciate the feedback! :)

Hi Jin,

It looks pretty good. Like you said, you are losing protraction on some of your reps. Also, be sure that you are keeping your hands as close to your hips as possible. On a few of your reps you let your body rock backwards as you pushed up. Stay leaning forward. Keep working hard!

Nice improvement!

Hard work paying off !
