i having been having progressive pain in my right psoas muscle, right in front of my

right hip joint (but it is not from the hip joint - i am a surgeon) which has gotten exceptionally painful when i straight leg raise or

lower the right leg, as with the declining pike over 10 seconds from a pike up on the chin up bar. i simply cannot do it do it due to  pain,

not muscle weakness. i have been trying to stretch it out but not helping. after only one painful set last night, i had to stop.

suggestions or advice? bit frustrating since i am getting close to completely the final 2 exercises on level A (still not up to 5 times 1 minute bent

arm hang since so little break between them but that is strength not pain that is limiting me. here it is pain) i have the same problem just lifting my leg straight without bending my knee).

thanks,

Hi David,

Thank you for reaching out.

Do you know what you may have done to cause the issue? When did the pain occur? Never train through pain so definitely take it easy for now. My recommendation is to see a doctor or a professional bodyworker to get a better evaluation of the cause.

I will reach out to @Wesley Tan who is a GB affiliate in Stroud and is a professional Osteopath.

Hi David,

Can you please elaborate. What makes you think the hip joint is not involved other than that you are a surgeon :) I mean, although it may not hurt when weightbearing it could be a soft tissue component? Have you had it scanned?

What brought it on, how long ago and what else aggravates it other than SLR.

If it is a muscle strain then the last thing you want to be doing is stretching it out hard. That will only aggravate it. Muscle strains need a few weeks rest and soft tissue work can help relax the muscle and stimulate healing.

If you ate following foundations and are on the chin hang, why are you piking your hips? The hips should be open with PPT.

Hard to advise with so litte info given.

dear TAnya and Wesley,

thanks very much to both of you for replying. i will provide more details and also if you prefer you can em directly at deberman08@gmail.com. i did not want to write too much, not because of shyness, but because i did not want to bore other readers who may not be interested.

i had a right hip replacement about 15 months ago (previous marathoner and Ironman x 2). been doing a lot of yoga past 3 years (working on flexibility) . intermittently have had problems with straight leg extension eg in boat position, only on the right and relieved by bending my knee. has been better until about 3 weeks ago, i have been working hard on the exercise where you are in an inverted pike and lower your legs gradually over ten seconds slowly with your hands in chin up position on the chin up bar, for several weeks now. it has gradually been getting more sore (i have also been trying to work it by lying on my back and doing straight leg lifts, which i felt would strengthen it but probably aggravated it). it got very, very sore after one set yesterday and i realize that i am going to have to rest it, probably for few weeks. i am able to do a good work out as long as i don't do anything that pushes the hip flexion esp with knee extended but even with knee bent it is somewhat sore.

any suggestions how to speed up the recovery are most appreciated. i am not positive that it is coming from the psoas but i think so. i don't think it is the hip joint because no other movement bothers it and also since i have a total hip replacement, there is nothing internal that can

be rubbing.

thanks,

david
