Hi jeff

i dont know if this is addressed in later lessons

a long time ago i read that the digestive system can only digest in 3 hours or so 30 grams of protein and the extra will be just burned and ditched is that true or can we eat more that that amount in every meal and benefit from it ?

Artur Krajewski

In general: yes, this topic is covered in some later step with a little bit of theoritical background.

Yea, Layne Norton has a pretty easy to read study on this.

Long story short; There is a limit of muscle protein synthesis but protein has other functions and is used for that as well as some do get converted (google glycogenic amino acids) but given that you aren't eating too (hundreds of g a day) much thats not to worry.

So the short answer: you can "use" more than 30g every 3hr.

Some recent research showed that the consumption of 40 grams of protein, in the form of a liquid whey protein shake, right before bed, produced a positive overnight protein synthesis. This was compared to no protein supplementation before bed, which produced a net negative overnight protein synthesis.

This is a good example of the body putting over 30 grams of protein, consumed in 1 sitting, to good use.

Boom! There you have it. 40g.

thanks for sharing is it the same result with taking it after morning wakeup ?

also 40g of protein or 40g serving as you know one serving 30g is 24g protein in whey

Everett Carroll

This was 40 grams of whey protein and not a 40g serving of whey. This same amount of intake at breakfast was not mentioned.
