Hi there,

Prone: should you posteriorly tilt pelvis?

Supine: same question.

Front position: when doing protraction of the shoulder blades, is it important not to drop the head, which would be thoracic flexion, not protraction?

Thanks,

Alessandro Mainente

I would see the 2 positions like a test for yourself where you can see weak points : shoulders , hips, spine, neck etc. you could evaluate to write down where you feel yourself very tight for future focused stretch.

in the support position the spine tends to naturally flex due to protraction. keep the head in neutral position.

I also have a question re: Day 2's exercises:

Specifically for front support: in the first example, the female model has more of a rounded back, and in the second example, the male model has a very flat back. I understand that each body is going to have its own tight spots/expression of these positions. Just wondering what the ideal expression is:

Is this supposed to be a position with stable shoulder (scapula in neutral position but engaged), with flat back and straight, 45 degree-ish line from shoulders to hips to ankles (like plank?)

OR are the shoulders more rounded/protracted with scapula pressed down the back and away from each other? Still maintaining the engaged core, but making it more of a table top from shoulder to hips, then a 45 degree downward angle from hips to ankles.

Also - with hands spread and fingers facing forward, are the eyes of the elbow (don't ask it's a weird term I use for the inner bend of the elbow), slightly facing each other or are they facing forward?

If we want to build up habits and search for scapulae imbalances then the position should be with rounded back and depressed scapulae, a good straight line from shoulder to hips, inner elbows facing forward. IN the context of GST and gymnastics world the front support is executed as I explained.
