Shoulder Instability

Hi, My partner and I are physiotherapists. My partner has hypermobility and reduced core shoulder strength  and noted that the crab was too hard for her to complete without long head of bicep pain and a feeling that her shoulder may dislocate. Is there any modification of the crab that you would recommend to a person with multi-directional instability?

Thanks,

Katy

The first thing to try would be just not lifting the hips so high and taking very small steps.

In extreme cases, you could even do this around a table, just to get some load on the arms. Stand back to the table, bend knees enough for hands to grab the edge behind your back and commence to side step around.

Allow hands to rotate so fingers move from facing behind you to the sides, now pointing away from your body.

Sitting with your hands behind you keeping the humeral head centred is a good start. When you can mange this then try some low hip lifts.

Hi Katy,

Have you reviewed the common issues video for this element?  Wesley covers some very good methods of scaling the crab.
