Just started PE5 and noticed that the athlete in the PE5 video takes his feet off the wall for the half pirouette while the PE6 athlete remains in contact. Clearly having the feet in contact is easier - is it optional at this stage?

Interesting, personally those variations worked pretty good on both me and my kids. I did the PE with feet off the wall and after experimented with feet on the wall. the first case allowed for more easy twist compared to feet on the wall.
on the contrary the PE6 with feet away makes the twist harder. same sensation were told me by my gymnasts. You will find less difference between the 2 variations if the bar is enough close to the wall.
Remember that the focus of the PE5 it is not to hold for time the free hs, it s better to focus on full elevation with shoulder touching the ear and body shape. the shoulder elevation makes and enormous difference.
Thanks Alessandro. I've played a little with both now and I see your point regarding the elevation and the difference in twists. I will stick to the video form for now! For the record also getting the relative height of the bar is critical - mine was just a little too high and so my wrists were not completely level in the pirouette so the feet away variation was very hard to control with fingertips!
