Coach,

I'm 45 and when doing the rear support, my elbows feel pain not my wrist.  The Common issues addresses wrist pain but not elbow pain.  What would you recommend as an adjustment?

Also, it was an eye opener when I couldn't position my feet flat on the ground during this position.  Curious though...when I'm finally able to achieve keeping feet flat on ground, how will this flexibility in the ankle area carry over to other workouts?  For example, would it help me in squatting, or jumping in basketball. Where will I notice a big improvements with other workouts?   I apologize if this seems like an obvious question.

Thanks,

David

I may be talking out my ass here, but from studying kinesiology your joints generally go between "hinge" and "swivel" joints. Your toes are hinge, your ankles are swivel, your knees are hinge, and your hips are swivel. Once you get into the back it gets a bit different.

So your knee being a hinge your hip and ankle are more swivel joint. They don't go in two directions. If a joint is frozen (usually a swivel) then the hinge joints start to swivel to help with movement.

Once your ankle is mobilized your knee health will be better, which will traverse up your body. Your muscles will fire better because they are not trying to stop your knee from swiveling but trying to extend your knee as hard as possible on your jump shot.

You will also improve the health of your Achilles tendon so when you jump for a lay up you aren't being taken to the hospital to get your tendon stapled back together.

just starting out.  i'm 42 and rear support is pretty weak.  haha.  i'm a drummer and have a ganglion cyst on my left wrist, so that hurts.  but my elbows (biceps?) aren't doing well either.  actually i'm a crossfitter for a year now, and wow, i have no posterior support or strength, and my hamstrings want to cramp.  this is already tough (and humbling!).  so for rear and front support, should we try and hold for time, and build?

Might want to start a new topic so the coaches can see.
