Might have been the topic many times before...

But what is Coach Sommer's view on the positioning of the shoulder blades in the basic dynamic movements like push-ups, ring rows and pull-ups?

Should they travel freely or should you tighten them up?

I.e. for the push-up - should you let them move freely like in a scapular push-up or should you for example keep them in a tight neutral position (and thereby have a shorter range of motion)?
And for the pull-up, should you let them travel freely so that in the starting hang, you are hanging on the relaxed soft tissue and at the top they are depressed and retracted? Or should you keep them "packed" (depressed and retracted) through the movement?

It depends on the exercise.

for pulling variation that begins from dead hang you should start with elevation, literally "relax your self during the hang".

during horizontal pushing the scapulae begin with depression and protraction, the ability to hold protraction in the bottom part will improve as the perfect form is mastered.

for handstand variation you should look for elevation and protraction.
