After doing Mn PE 1 on the floor (stone) I found my sacrum very sore. Is that bad technique, or plain stupidity in not using a mat (or both)?

MN PE 1 sacrum pain

I'd go with both. You can do it on hard floor without it being a problem, but you have to be careful and use good form. But you really should just do carpet or some type of mat. Even a towel works.
For checking form, I always lay on my back with bent knees. Get a feel for my back relaxing into the floor, looking for that "Low back pressed into the floor" feeling. Then straighten legs out while maintaining that hip position that keeps my back firmly on the floor. Doing that will protect your low back and insure good form.
What's most likely happening is you're rocking over your lower back, rather than having it sink and stay there for the duration of the movement.
Stupidity. ![]()
Use carpet or a rolled up towel at a minimum.

My sacrum definitely agrees on stupidity - will never do it on hard floor again!
