Gender Differences

Greetings all,

I have a question that's just came to my mind. Does the template we use for our GB training differs if it's for a male or a female? I mean it should be isn't it? I had to do 5x15 pushups but if it was for a female shouldn't be less?

Thanks in advance.

No it should not!

:) That's just my personal opinion.

If you consider/believe the gender differences for endurance, it should be the other way round  :P

Consider the musculoskeletal system and our hormones, especially on "strength exercises" like pushups think it should but if i was sure, i wouldn't be asking!

LateStarter@46

Yes, different hormones but virtually identical musculoskeletal system (differences in pelvis) and doing 5 x 15r of push ups is just a piffle in the (female and male) gymnastic world.

agreed. proven with the girls I give class to that are ex-gymnast and non-gymnast.

the ex-gymnast has a very mobile handstand line, but incredibly low pressing and pushing strength compared to the non-gymnast girl.

non-gymnast girl came to me in May/June with relatively a relatively good balance of mobility, flexibility and strength. she couldn't lower more than 5-6in until reaching the point of not being to press back up and collapsing.

fast forward 4-5months of steady progression, she can do 4x5r. ex gymnast girl is right alongside her, looking at her notes 5x3r - 4x4r were here PB's.

much better than the other girls who have been training at the same box for 1-2yrs...honestly, i think she has much nicer(stronger) pushups than most of the guys.

I am talking about the average person here, not gymnasts or athletes in general. I mean 5x15 pushups in my head a lot for an average woman. Maybe its just in my head or it's just needs more time to reach that number and again the strength needed thought.

Coach already stated that it should be no different between genders

The point at which Coach draws a distinction for male vs. female athletes in basic strength is the requirement for males to perform hollowback press HS, whilst for women it is chest roll to HS. Everything else including HS, pHS, rope climbs are the same. Anyone untrained in doing pushups can spend a long time working up to 5x15; there are threads here to prove that :)

are we talking about this from an existing social stand point or from a biological one? my thoughts were on the latter.

if it's from a biological one, I don't see why 5x15r is such a hard feat. perhaps for someone who doesn't know how to visualize proper form and doesn't have a coach but in terms of potential of the human body to think it's too much is founded on inexperience.

from a social standpoint, tons of people perform pushups with a wide variety of forms, regardless of their gender. the ones who are coached to perform a particular skill go on to improve on that and the ones who simply practice the form they wish with the programming they design are going to have very different results.

which is why i made the distinction between ex-gymnast (which counts for one girl), non-gymnast(which counts for my one other girl) and the rest of the women who practice at the Box I work at (around 6-7 other ladies).

my athletes have pushups and are on their way to fulfilling their assignment to then be exposed to pseudo planche leans and pushups.

the other members of the box whom on the other hand do not use the GB method are no where even close.

First of all thank you all for the replies and the information they had. You all agree that is normal and acceptable for a woman and a man to have the same target for the mastery of each element on Foundation One. I am not saying the opposite, my intention was to ask and find out by hearing opinions like i just did! So thank you again all!
