Hi all, i'd really appreciate some help trying to improve my bent-arm straddle planche. I just can't seem to get deep enough to get my body parallel to the floor. I've been working on this twice a week for the last 4-5 weeks and i can now at least hold it to try and slowly balance forward but the i fall off a cliff. I'll do about 6-7 sets like this with 60-90s rest. Thank you very much for any replies in advance. Simon :-)

(Apologies i can't figure out how to compress my vid)

You tend to have the shoulders too low.

Since you are able to safety hold a sort of shoulders stand you can consider the idea of doing some negatives of bent arm str planche so that you can improve a bit the strength . so basically from the shoulder stand that is your diagonal bent arm planche, slowly move your body down until it is parallel to the ground. at the beginning maybe you are not able to hold it parallel to the floor  just for one second. no matter about what you CAN'T, your body will adapt.

Try doing it from the floor, that'll eliminate the forward angle. Oh, and remove those shoes and socks, they add weight to your legs... ;)

What the others have said above, and also move forwards into the hold not down, so get those arms straightening  :)

Yes, when you feel your biceps working, you know you're getting there. That's what she said.

Hi guys thanks for the feedback i really appreciate it.

Alessandro, do you mean my shoulders dip as in not retracted or the level is too low in relation to the body position.

I'm also moving back to a couple of earlier progressions to open my wrists a bit to do this on the floor.

Haha i will also remove my shoes/socks and may tie on some helium balloons too!

Stay strong peeps :-)

Does training shoulder stands themselves have any benefits? Not necessarily for these IMs but GST in general. Such as holding for time.

Hi zachnthank you for the feedback. I start in the shoulder stand to try and forward dip into the parallel position but at the point of failure i guess i just run out of strength. I shall keep practicing it though :-)

Thanks once again everyone!

Holding the static position becomes easier as your tricep pressing strength increases.

Supplementary pseudo planche push ups, "Hammer"curls, and tricep extensions are helping. Externally rotating your upper arms helps also.

You can try to assist the entry by squeezing your elbows against the body to get into position. Once there, you can slowly open your elbows as your strength tolerates to remove the assistance.

Don't forget to focus on really leaning forward and extending your arms. If you're doing it on the floor without paralettes, pointing your fingers out 90 degrees to your body also helps take a lot of stress off your wrists.

These are the things that helped me, but it still took me a good three months tonget these.

Thank you rayne and MR, i think i may try using the elbow to support and then supersetting it with 5-10 pseduo planche pressups which should help with getting used to the depth. Failing that, any excuse to do hammer curls haha :-)

I've been on these for a while now. While I can do the hold I haven't been able to build up the strength to do it for 5 sets with the PE. Burn out on the 4th set.

Going to try GTG as well as hitting my pressing harder.

Provided your strength is not the issue, g2g style works very well for learning this position :)

I like to do a psuedo planche push up with legs in straddle. Then I bend one leg at a time. This allows me to get my weight over the wrists and get the feel of where my body should be.
