When performing these, should the goal be to come back down to the hold position or continue rolling to the upper back?

avoid your feet travelling too high though.
In the wild there are a number of variations on degree of the rock.
But as I understand Coach Sommer and other coaches, Ultimately the rock is fairly tight, Of course it has to go beyond the neutral HBH but not far, not high on the upper back.
A good goal is, with a solid HBH, the back side of the rock should take the feet to about knee height and the front just before touching the floor with the feet.
