I want to build strength and mobility in order to learn a handstand push up. 

The best progression i could find was the pike push up. If someone has a better progression for this exercise please feel free to tell me. 

 

Now. The pike push up. I watched this video on youtube and was wondering about the shoulder protraction. Looks like this guy extends his shoulders way too much but maybe i'm wrong. Please take a look if you think the same

If by extend you mean elevate, he's doing it right. There are great progressions for this in Foundations, but this is a good place to start.
