I believe that my son is almost mastered with 5x60 sets of the tripod, but still struggles on the iM. If he has to work towards mastery weight of 5 lbs, should he just start out at 2 pounds (he can't do full perfect 30 seconds with 5 pounds yet) and work his way up, all the time doing mastery sets of the PE? Or should he work towards a slightly lower mastery weight given his age and the fact that lifting 5 pounds for him would be harder than for an adult (scaling exercises down to age)?

thanks!

i thought the im was 10 seconds?

vinca_minor

It is

im1 is 30 seconds, but im2 is 10 seconds right?

vannybute

hmm sorry i guess i misread! my son was trying to hold 30s, and dying in the process...

Ah ha! We found the root of your troubles, finally.

Even so, he struggles to hold perfect form. This will be a long journey :(

you need to start with low weight and work through the grip with the goal of decreasing it. then increase weight and restart will a grip that is necessary to perform the mobility correctly.

Hmm.. Coach has said it should ALWAYS be worked at ~shoulder width. What is your opinion on this?

Is it fine to retract if you do not internally rotate?

For PE1>iM?  No.

But Allan himself does retract and rotate in the video, and you said that the form of a user was fine in one thread, but he clearly did rotate and retract?

Allan isn't retracting in the demo. The scapula seems neutral to me. I remember Alex specified in one of the topics here that when you elevate, part of the fibers of (protraction)serratus anterior are activated as well.

His elbows are facing out (not as in a chinup grip, but facing forward). His scapula are clearly sticking out. This is not protraction, and he is internally rotating. Thoughts?
