GB Social Media - Style, Content and clarifying guidelines.

At present there are no clear guidelines from GB regarding social media content, except for the use of the correct hashtags #gymnasticbodies #christophersommer. We all agree upon the importance of our social media presence and are aware of the huge impact and audience that can be reached through it, however we are all learning and this has many facets.

1. Content

Obviously GST material is the main element, but the confusion was to how it is portrayed or rather expected to be portrayed.  This was discussed at some length and it seems that there may be strong cultural differences as to what is deemed acceptable and/or appropriate across the globe. It is clear that using 'sexy' in advertising is nothing new and that this has become apparent within the fitness industry also, but it seems that our friends in the USA are more used to and comfortable with this as per some of Awaken's social media.

Some of the affiliates have had feedback from clients that some posts have been a little 'inappropriate' and I think this is where the cultural differences concerning the body come into play. We all understand that wearing less clothes allows for more detail to be seen concerning alignment, technical execution and form but for the untrained eye, potentially new customers and/or for some existing clients it may at times be too much. On a slightly different note, many affiliates reported having received feedback from potential clients that the videos and images seen on social media are actually intimidating, for example "this stuff is way to difficult for me", "I couldn't possibly do any of that" and one of my personal favourites was from a lady I had a personal conversation with asking if I could perhaps "show some ordinary people like herself" in some of our videos.

We are aware that we can't please everybody and that some affiliates may attract and/or target different audiences. Affiliate media may well vary depending upon these factors as well as personal choices regarding what they may deem appropriate.

2. Video Production

Tori and Dan have had difficulties uploading HD content to facebook via an iPhone 6.

Individual iOS settings had been configured correctly as well FB app settings.

Juliette and Ondrej mentioned a difference in quality options when uploading on via a mobile device between the Facebook App and Pages App. What is clear is that there appears to be no option when viewing Falsegrips video on FB to select HD. Clear help on this from those that know for sure would be great.

You guys are over thinking this part.  Rather than asking how it should be done, take more time to review and study the affiliate materials I have been promoting.  Pay attention to subject matter, to lighting, to framing, to duration.

Bottom line; if your material is not being promoted ask yourself why.  Compare it with other vids that have been promoted to see where you have fallen short.  If after that you still are not sure, drop me a note.  I am always happy to help a student understand and remedy deficiencies.   ;)
