I was doing some press handstands and started wondering if it would help get a v or l sit to handstand if I would, while standing, put my hands on the ground on either side of my feet and just try to lift my feet straight off the ground by compressing and lifting my hips, just to get able to do that part of the movement. Does this make any sense?

Follow Coach Sommer's manna progression to build towards the V-sit. Try the L on floor or on fingertips and palm ridge.
V-sit is mostly about leaning back on the triceps a bit and active hip flexors and pike compression. Better pike compression means L/pike press HS is easier.
