Okay, he's tried a bunch of variations, he found this easiest, least painful, and most natural (how natural does a hinge row get ?
).
I know he bounces around a little, as his body is still getting used to the hip positioning.
Thanks!

Body movement it is fine. fix the grip, start from prone and end in semipronated grip.
Awesome to see a little guy training these! I would also recommend slowing down and controlling the eccentric portion of the movement a bit more. Build some extra strength while also grooving the movement pattern more.
Best,
Chris
Thank you! What is prone and semi-pronated grip? Is there a thread on all of the different grips?
Thanks again,

When arms are hanging down, in a pronated position, the back of the hand is pointing forward, palm backwards, forearms are internally rotated whereas in a supinated position, palms are facing forward, back of the hand backward, forearms are externally rotated. Semi-pronated would be halfway between the two (kind of a "neutral" position of the hand).
From a pull-up-pov, of course pronated means you are looking at the back of your hands (pull-up-grip), supinated you are looking at your palms (chin-up grip), semi-pronated accordingly in between:
