So I have some of questions on PE4

1. Are you supposed to be as tall as possible when doing this exercise?? or is it fine to not extend your arms out to be tall?

2. How much weight are you supposed to use on the bar? can you start without any weight and just a wooden stick in case the exercise is too difficult?

3. Once you concentrate on pressing your core to the ground and your upper back flat on the floor doesnt the exercise become exactly like(and hence really difficult) the most difficult HBH??

Thanks in advance

Coach Sommer

There must always be weight on the bar in order to activate the musculature in the shoulder girdle.

1. Yes -- be tall.  This is basically a horizontal handstand.

2. Just use a couple pounds and cut the times in half if it's too hard at first.

3. No.  A HBH has arms, upper back, and legs off the ground.  This has legs and upper back on the ground.  HBH is about core strength.  This exercise is about shoulder strength primarily, with just enough core to hold the line.

Does mastery require just a few pounds weight then?

Yes. Between 5-10 lb is usually enough for mastery
