failing to gain mass

Nautique,

what lab did you use for your stool test? And what is the protocol you are following? Just curious.

Gut is where it all begins...health or desease. And a diversified gut microbiome is key to everything, including body composition.

At least that is what the latest science says and I am a big believer!

I don't know the name of the labs .I'm working with a functional medicine doctor in the SF Bay Area http://www.drruscio.com . I'm on the second month of a two month program. I'll attach the program in a pic.

I never felt better and put on about 5 lbs of lean mass measured by dexa scan in that time . I know it's hard to believe !

I've had problems with my digestion and thyroid for about 15 years now after I had some surgeries and multiple rounds of antibiotics .

Prescript Assist is a quality soil based probiotic + a bunch of other strains. I have used it in my protocol as well. Good stuff! I don't know about the thyroid stuff but the rest seems like a solid start covering a three pronged attack plan: weed, seed and feed.

NAC is there to break down biofilms where bad bugs and fungus hide. In addition, try to eat fermented foods which will provide more diversified good microbes in addition to Prescript Assist.

 

What I am learning is that you do not want any specific strain, whether good or bad, to overgrow and dominate so it is important to seed the missing strains with supplements, feed them so they can begin to colonize instead of just passing through and eat a variety of fiber to help with diversity. Just as a cautionary note-  remember a lot of the microbiome science is evolving and in very early stages and nobody knows for sure what the optimum gut profile should be; so a lot of it is self-experimentation at this point.

 

You said, you never felt better; did you mean you are feeling much better on this regimen or did you mean that you didn't feel any better but still able to gain lean mass? I think I know what you mean but just wanted to clarify.

 

I'd be curious to see what showed up on your stool test results if you don't mind sharing, may be PM me. Understand if you don't want to.
