The Strap Ring Plank seems like an easier version of the Ring Planks, even though they are in different skill category, or is there something different between the 2?

In strengthening, the smaller muscles are most of the times the weak link. Ring strength elements are very demanding on the brachialis muscle. The strap ring plank is part of the LARS progressions (leverage assisted ring strength), the straps takes some load off the brachialis so that the bigger muscles such as pecs/lats etc. will grow in strength so that once you are ready to work the actual versions without strap, they will be in a better position to support the brachialis.
