Hand-spotting Press Handstands

Coach-

You mentioned you have personally hand-spotted thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of press handstands.

Would you share some of your thoughts on the benefits/drawbacks?

How does incorporating hand-spotting change the set and rep numbers you prescribe?

Would you train more reps than the athlete could perform alone and perfectly, and as the athlete fatigued, provide increasing assistance to provide perfect form (looking for that critical drop-off of skill performance)?

Much of H2 uses 5x5, and is built for no coach spotting.

So would you work in higher numbers when you hand-spot your athletes?

Is there a rule of thumb for sets/reps for assisted press HS (or indeed any hand-assisted work)? I can't think of any other fitness pursuit that incorporates hand-spotting as skill-strength work.

That is, spotting someone on a max bench or back-squat is not the same as enforcing perfect line in a press HS; at least, my understanding of the purpose of hand-spotting is that it should not typically be used as max-effort assistance (when by definition form breaks). Though perhaps this too is inaccurate?

Thank you for considering the question.
