Those are parallettes. I think progress would be the same, just a matter of preference. Floor is slightly harder to balance and requires no extra equipment, so that's what I would use.

Because hands are turned backwards?
My take is to learn the arm positioning on rings. Coach is pointing at the forearm outwards, just like the support position on rings. I think is easy to teach/learn it on parallettes instead of directly on rings. Maybe a specific planche lean with emphasis on that support. Who knows! Back to training!

Turning the paralletes out and putting the hands backwards simulates the turnout on rings and emphasizes the biceps and brachiallis more. Don't attempt until you are ready as coach says.
