starting early on HBP/PE6?

i'm on HBP PE1, the incline push up, but i looked ahead and saw HBP/PE6, which is the parallel bar dip.  i see that the athlete is doing a parallel bar dip to about 45 degrees.

i can do a parallel bar dip to just under 90 degrees.  i can tell that it will take a long time (i'm guessing a year or two) to get that degree of flexibility.

should i start working on HBP/PE6 (the parallel bar dips) now in addition to PE1, so i can get the flexibility down quicker, or is that just asking for an injury?

Don't move on until you have mastered the previous element build some serious strength with pe1-3 then pe4 onwards will help getting that extra rom. If you like though you can do some stretches and extra mobility to help with rom in the shoulders as well as any other areas you want to improve.

Keep to the progressions though don't try and skips you won't be doing yourself any favors. If you want though feel free to experiment occasionally with other progressions just for fun but don't push it or train it unless you are prepared by mastering previous progressions.

It shouldn't take a super long time to get that level of flexibility, although building up strength with that extra ROM can be a challenge.

Are you working basic shoulder extension stretches?  German hang is the most specific one I can think of, although you should try the feet supported one first.

Don't worry. HBP/PE2, HBP/PE3, HBP/PE4, HBP/PE5 and Xiaopeng's will take care of your shoulder strenght/flexibility.

I'd recommend something a little easier than German hangs to start with. Simply sit on the floor legs in front of you hand at shoulder width behind you on the floor arms straight and hen reach them backwards or stand holding a weighted bar behind you hands facing forward then pike at the hips while you raise the bar up and feel the weight trying to pull down over your head with Arms locked.( very lightly weighted at first)

Go lightly with these things and build up slowly with the stretches. No need to push yourself using a heavy bar and injuring your shoulders.

Honestly though I've found h1 to do great things for my shoulders if you don't have it I'd suggest looking into it.

ok.  thanks.  i guess i will just have to be patient

Ronin, just in case, if you're doing H1, iM2 will help you get the depth in the Dip but like everyone's said the previous PE's and iM's will take care of it on it's own

yeah, i have h1.  i'm still working on im 1, though.  thanks for the advice, though.

I worked on both during my warmups as i was working on mastering iM1 and both accelerated my progress. (which btw, I'm a smidget away from mastering iM2 using some Pec Minor stretches for those last couple inches that were holding me back. (okay, honestly, it was way back.  )

i'll try both im's tomorrow.

Have you tried pointing your elbow pits downwards?

that's the bit that took the elbow/ shoulder discomfort, now im just going for that last couple of inches to get horizontal with the floor

edit: probably three or four more sessions, been doing some thorough warming up when it comes to shoulder ROM
