Free or wall-assisted HS to build endurance.

Hi.

Say if you have a great looking handstand and you need to build endurance to keep staying on your hands longer, is it better to keep standing free or do it wall-assisted, or both?

I can free-stand for about 30s before I fall because of exhaustion, but doing the chinese HS from HS1 I can stand at least 5x1min as it is in the progression (I really like this exercise because it helps you keep a really good line).

I know some of you might say something like "your free HS should be the same as chinese, because its the same form" or something, but I really get tired in the smaller muscles (mostly shoulders for me) fine tuning the balance all the time standing free.

Thanks

What's wrong with the progressions in H1? That would seem to be exactly what you're looking for...

It was more of a discussion type of question, even if it didn't come off like that. I didn't say anything was wrong with it but it's only free standing from SE4 and forward.

Like other movements and exercises outside gymnastics there are supplementary exercises to the main one. I was just wondering if free standing is the way to go or can a wall-assisted hold (which is held for a longer time) have the same effect on endurance.

Free standing will hit your stabilisers more, if that's what you're asking?

All the exercises have their purposes. The 5x60seconds wall-handstands will develop the endurance needed to work towards the freestanding handstand. So that when you work up to the freestanding HS, you will have a solid base of endurance, which allows you to work on the more advanced things like body alignment and rebalancing.

But since you can already hold a solid freestanding HS and you say rebalancing is your main problem, I think the best way is just to keep adhering to the progressive training. Play with micro-cycles, check on some prior PE's/SE's and their iM. Good luck!

This. From my perspective, one of the major points of having 5*60 wall/Chinese HS holds is to take gross str/ endurance out of the equation to give you one less thing to think about while correcting everything else in free HS.

For endurance, wall or Chinese HS is more efficient; you might consider 1 or 2 extended duration sets after your specific work.

personally i like to combine free HS work with H1

Free HS will give you the perfecto propioreception of what you're doing.

H1 will give you the amount of strength and conditioning work or HS

Just don'toverdo them..

As you are learning free handstand there is no necessity to use chronic wall handstand to reach more endurance. for my personal experience my free handstand has not the same form as the wall hs as is possible to notice in the "show your hs post".

In one versione i can maximize the hollow by using all my traps strength built up with IM 1-8. on free handstand use all of that strength let more to mexican handstand so you need to find the correct balance between line and activation.

If i need endurance on free hs i need to train free hs. just now perform 4 sets of 90 seconds is very hard but i'm slowly finding the palm balance seconds by seconds.
