Hello,

i am a bloody beginner in gymnastics so this may be a stupid question for you.

Today i had my handstand workout and i got a question about opening shoulders in handstand and what it actually means... i already searched the forum and i know it means that you are in 1 line with the rest of your body then and closed shoulders means you are not. Altough, i discovered something strange and i want to know if i do it right.

I uploaded 1 set of my wall handstand on youtube:

i can do 2 kind of shoulder positions in which i am able to be in 1 line with the rest of my body. you can see it in the video where i move my shoulders significantly inwards and outwards.

if i turn them inwards it feels a little strange for me, maybe i dont have the mobility yet but its feels much easier. when i turn my shoulders outwards it becomes more strenuous to hold and its difficult to keep my arms straight.

my question is which of them is correct and/or if both are wrong.

The stable shoulder position in flexion (arms overhead) is external rotation, which was the more difficult position for you.

inward movement increases the protraction but you need more shoulders mobility,on the other way retract decreases the protraction but it's easier to increase the flexion.
