 Dear community,

today i revisited Kit Laughlin`s youtube channel to check his way of performing the speed skater squat. It`s noticable different. He says that the torso should be parallel to the ground and the weight shifted slightly backwards. After having tried this version i have to admit that this way of performing the speed skater squat is really hamstrings and glutes dominated compared to the "normal" speed skater demonstrated in F1 which hits the quads more effectivly. What do you think about that fact ? I assume that i should stick to F1`s version but i am just curious because i know that coach really appreciates Kit`s approach.

Different goal = different form.

you could alternate masteries, if that makes sense. for cert purposes, you will be tested per the form of the athletes but if you feel your glutes and hamstring could benefit from the extra stimulus, i'd say go for it, but keep that in perspective (do the form of the athlete and keep in mind that you can alternate between the two to have some variety in your warm up and/or conditioning.)

Look at the mobility.  F1's speed skater squat is focused on quads but the mobility is focused on hamstring.  why have both the strenght and mobility target the exact thing

notice the order in which I pointed out "what he could do" not "do this because i say so"

we all have different goals and just wanted to point it out :)

Thank you for your answers. Good advice Keilani, i`ll keep that in my mind :)

Natural leg extensions target the quads

i know he meant well on that one, where i probably didnt come off clearly was the "you can do both really, but focus on one for cert and F-series purposes, it won't hurt if you can do both" message :)

and i've gotten so many of the PE's and SE's mixed up that it's bound to happen to anyone else :P

I haven't seen the other version of the exercise but I can see why you'd suggest knowing both variations! Certainly no harm in that in my opinion.

I just figured I'd jump in about the natural leg extensions, maybe he was thinking of the next iM, shoulder bridge leg curl, as those definitely target the hammies!
