Stall bars in weather?

How would wooden stall bars stand in weather? I'm in Texas and it ranges from about 80-100 Fahrenheit (27-38 Celsius) in summer and 40-70 F (5-21 C) in winter. These would be under a covered patio, protected, however moisture, etc would still get to it. Thoughts?

i think ,better choice is steel..  but who knows? maybe good stallbars made of good wood..why not. for some time this is a choice too. i am not fan of varnishing but if you use some natural oil or tjære.

my stall bars are exposed to the elements because half of the garage is exposed and only covered by ficus. 

 

i basically made a "box" frame, and fit the dowels in, kind of like a ladder, only the top and bottom have a 2x4 making it literally into a frame. 

 

the outside wood is poor quality, not the best, pine is really gooey here and tends to rot. 

 

my thoughts on it were to try this one out as a benchmark to see where i can go after this one in terms of wood quality and how much im willing to invest. 

 

my first set, mounted, is worth $125...maybe $20 more cause of gas/transportation. so i'm not going to suffer when it rots a few yrs from now(depending on conditions because we're in hurricane/tropical storm season right now. 

Should be fine. Put a few coats of high grade Spar Varnish on it if you want to give it some protection.

Thanks guys! Me and my dad discussed maybe replacing the wooden dowels with steel bars? I have chalk so grip, slipperiness is not a problem.

Don't bother; like Chobbs said, you'll likely be fine

You can always replace one rung at a time later if, and when it shows signs of decay.
